Korea opened a factory that records how humanoid robots move

South Korea has opened a centre whose job is to record training data for two-legged robots. The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, working with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, says the AI Humanoid Data Factory started with 12 humanoids in about 1,000 square metres and plans to grow to 25. At the opening, operators steered robots by remote control through kitchen, laundry, and car-cabin tasks.

Each recorded motion is meant to teach vision-language-action models, which turn what a robot sees and is told into movement. The ministry wants a national humanoid platform within three years and has spoken of buying 1,080 domestic humanoids, while lifting the local share of core parts from about 45 percent toward 80 percent.

For students

For a diploma project, the useful lesson is data, not a costume robot. A walking demo is easy to film. A robot that repeats a task from recorded examples needs sensors, labels, and a test you can measure.
